Is Fiji the next call centre outsourcing destination?
Fiji is making moves to position itself for call centre growth amongst a growing interest of Australian investors.
Australian investment in Fiji appears to be on the rise as the Pacific nation promotes itself as an offshoring destination.
The Australia-Fiji and Fiji-Australia Business Councils held a two-day forum last week in Fiji to coincide with a visit by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.
More than 100 business leaders from both countries attended the forum.
While tourism has traditionally been Fiji’s main attraction for foreign investors, Australia-Fiji Business Council president Greg Pawson said he also saw opportunities for growth in other sectors. “Fiji is looking to put itself forward as a potential call centre base for companies, software developers, there are a lot of exciting things going on,” he said.
Update: This article was originally published in 2014 and there is no doubt that Fiji has established itself as a viable destination for Australian businesses looking to outsource their contact centre, with a number of businesses already using Fiji call centre outsourcers to handle their Australian calls.
